East Academy PACT Seminar Set for Dec 9
As we prepped people for prior to the 0708 Academy year, we are encouraging parents to take part in MYSA's Parents and Coaches Together (PACT) Program. In a nutshell, PACT helps parents and coaches get on the same page in forming and maintaining and nurturing climate where positive development can occur for the young athletes.
BTFC will be hosting it's East Academy seminar on Sunday, December 9th at Lake Junior High School (MAP) in Woodbury. We are offering two seminars on that Sunday afternoon and you may attend either one. The first will be at 1:30PM, the second at 4:00PM. The seminar is located in the Cafetorium, down the hall and to the left of the gyms where the players will be in their Futbol Sala training.

We encourage all parents to attend. Remember that we are offering a $50 refund of your yearly registration fee if at least one family memeber (either you or your spouse) participates. We will have a sign up sheet passed around during the seminar to track this.
** You must pre register (free of charge) for this seminar HERE **

Players are asked to go online to the MYSA website and fill out the PACT survey in preparation for this parent seminar. Results are tracked by the University of Notre Dame.

Nutmeg Festival Fun

Sunday, October 28
Nutmeg: Beating an opponent by dribbling or passing the ball through your opponents legs.
Smiles, camaraderie and competition ruled the day at the first ever Bangu Tsunami Academy Nutmeg Festival. This event was the first of the 0708 Academy's new series of Skills Festivals that are designed to foster creativity and community within the Academy program.
Over 80 U9-U12 players participated in the festival in two divisions: U9/U10 and U11/U12. Boys and girls from all the academies were mixed up to form 8 different teams and the fun began.

Over 80 U9-U12 players participated in the festival in two divisions: U9/U10 and U11/U12. Boys and girls from all the academies were mixed up to form 8 different teams and the fun began.
The U9/U10 Division was highlighted with spectacular soccer, outstanding finishes, and a generous mix of smiles and laughter. There were a total of 26 nutmegs completed, with France and Manchester United leading the way with 8 each. There was no lack of creativity in attempts to nutmeg opponents in a variety of ways.
The competition was hard fought and extremely close. Without a last minute goal in the final round robin game there would have been a 3-way tie for the two spots in the championship game.
Holland entered the final as the points leader and got off to a quick two goal lead. Real Madrid battled back taking a 6-5 lead with less than a minute to play. Holland, never a team to give up, scored just before time expired. Of course officials were unprepared to handle this. Succumbing to pressure from the two teams, a shootout was added. On the final shot a winner was determined and Real Madrid was declared the winner. A great day for players from all four teams came to an appropriately dramatic end.
In the U11/U12 division there were 54 completed nutmegs between all teams.
Arsenal and Brazil led the way with 14 nutmegs each.
Arsenal played a highly creative game and looked to nutmeg their opponents every time they had the ball.
Brazil possessed a ton of creativity highlighted by a series of double scissors nutmegs.
All games in this division were competitive and it came down to the final round robin game to decide who would reach the Final. With Brazil needing a win they drew against USA in an exciting game that saw Brazil come from 2 goals down with 5 minutes left to tie the game and they barely missed the winning goal with 1 minute left.
The Final pitted Barcelona against the juggernaut that was USA. The US was the only team to not lose in the round robin and they had defeated Barcelona in the first game of the tournament. However, in this game, Barcelona scored an early goal and never looked back on their way to taking home the title. Congratulation to both teams for a great day of soccer.
With the success of this festival we will be adding two more festivals through the winter and expanding the competition to include the older age groups.
Winter Footwear Questions?
BTFC Academy teams will be involved with many different types of training programs this winter. This is important as we look to keep the young players interested and engaged with a variety of training sessions while also working to develop the all around soccer player.
With the multiple training programs comes a need for different types of footwear. Here is some helpful infomation as you look to get your child outfitted for the long winter months.
Indoor Shoes
Indoor shoes (Indoors) or "flats" are the best option for the hardwood gymnasium surfaces for our Futbol Sala (FS) training. Indoor shoes are generally sleeker and more form fitted than running shoes to give players a better touch and feel on the soccer ball.

Turf Shoes
Turf shoes (Turfs) have a multitude of tiny nubs on the sole of the shoe making them more suited to artificial turf fields than Indoors. Where Indoors might allow players to slip during sharp turns/cuts, Turfs provide the extra traction needed for peak performance during our Field Training sessions. Note that Turfs are usually black-soled and thus prohibited for Futbol Sala (they also do not provide adequate traction on hardwood floors).

Outdoor Shoes
Outdoor Shoes (Cleats) may be used on most synthetic field surfaces in the Twin Cities (except for the boards fields are Corner Kick). Some players prefer Cleats to Turfs for our Field Training.

Running Shoes
Running Shoes (Runners) may be used for our Performance Training at Corner Kick or Acceleration MN. They may also be used for Futbol Sala, though the higher foot placement (due to the thicker padded sole) may lead to ankle roles when changing directions quickly.

Here are our suggestions for footwear for the different programming and for the various sites.
